MUSCAT/TEHRAN, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Oman and Iran on Thursday condemned, respectively, the Israeli Knesset's approval of a motion calling for the imposition of so-called "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli move is "another defiance of international law and resolutions of the international community," which will deliberately undermine peace efforts in the Middle East, the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, and the viability of a two-state solution, Oman's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It reiterated Oman's "vehement rejection" of Israel's ongoing policies of blockade and starvation, as well as its obstruction of food, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza and other Palestinian territories.
It held Israel and its supporters "fully responsible for the legal, humanitarian, and political consequences of these practices," stressing that such actions constitute blatant violations of international humanitarian law.
In a separate statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said it considered the Israeli legislative body's move as another proof of Israel's "expansionist and domineering" nature.
It added that the Knesset's move, concurrent with Israel's "genocide and ongoing flagrant human rights violations" in the West Bank, disclosed more than ever the reality that Israel had no other objective but to "eliminate" Palestine as an "independent country, nation and identity."
Earlier on Thursday, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and 10 Arab, Islamic countries -- Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Nigeria, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates -- also issued a joint statement voicing their strong condemnation of the Israeli move.
On Wednesday, the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, approved a non-binding motion in favor of annexing the West Bank. ■
