SYDNEY, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Police in the Australian state of Queensland have charged two people with the murder of their housemate who has been missing since mid-May.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) on Thursday night arrested 34-year-old James Wood and 33-year-old Tanika Bromley and charged them each with one count of murder and two counts of interfering with a corpse following the disappearance of their housemate, 17-year-old Pheobe Bishop.

QPS Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield told reporters on Friday that it would be alleged in court that Wood and Bromley murdered Pheobe and moved her body more than once.

The 17-year-old has been missing since May 15 when she failed to board a flight from the airport in Bundaberg, 290 kilometers north of Brisbane, to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend.

Her disappearance triggered a major two-week search in Bundaberg and surrounding regions.

Mansfield said that police would allege that Pheobe was in a car with her housemates on the way to the airport on May 15 but that she never entered the terminal.

"Our investigation will detail the facts that we believe Pheobe was murdered and then her body was moved," Mansfield said.

Initial search efforts focused on the Good Night Scrub National Park, 70 kilometers southwest of Bundaberg and 35 kilometers south of the town of Gin Gin where the three were living.

Mansfield said that telephone data led detectives to the national park and that investigators expect to find Pheobe's body in the greater Gin Gin area.
