TOKYO, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as the market mood here turned positive.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 116.06 points, or 0.54 percent, from Monday to end the day at 21,794.32.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.06 points, or 0.35 percent, to finish at 1,731.94.

Iron and steel, machinery and transportation equipment-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
