BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- China said Thursday that it hopes relevant parties will respect the reasonable demands of the Iranian side and maintain the balance of rights and obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Lu Kang, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the comments at a press briefing in Beijing.

Iran on Monday announced to increase its enrichment of uranium, and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday suspending the implementation of some of its commitments under the deal was a "minimum" measure and that Iran would take more actions if its demands were not met.

Lu said China is highly concerned about the increasing tension on the Iran nuclear issue and has called on related parties to remain rational, exercise restraint and not take any action that escalates the situation. "Especially, the relevant country should change its 'maximum pressure' policy."

During a meeting on Tuesday with the Syrian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Walid Mualem, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said ensuring the full and effective implementation of the JCPOA was not only the requirement of the decision made by the UN Security Council but also the only effective way to resolve the Iran nuclear issue.

Lu noted the International Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed 15 consecutive times that Iran fulfilled its obligations in the JCPOA.

"Other parties should also respect the reasonable demands of Iran, take active measure and maintain the balance of rights and obligations in the JCPOA," he said.
