DUBAI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Dubai International Airport (DXB) will use Siemens' data analytics and smart building technology to guarantee annual energy savings of about 20 percent per year, United Arab Emirates (UAE) state news agency WAM reported Monday.

The airport aims to slash energy consumption by implementing energy efficiency measures at Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Concourse B at DXB.

The measures will focus on air and water systems of DXB, and the seven-year project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 25,000 tonnes, with annual electricity savings of approximately 50 gigawatt hours, and water savings of around 21 million gallons, said the report.

A tailor-made energy optimization solution has been designed for the project by Siemens, comprising a range of physical and digital technologies such as frequency drives, sensors, energy metering and efficient water fixtures.

Dubai is the logistics, trade and business hub of the seven emirates comprising the UAE.

According to the UAE Minister of Energy Suhail Al Mazrouei, the Gulf Arab country, a major oil supplier with 99 percent of domestic energy needs based on oil and gas, aims to increase the share of clean energy from near zero three years ago to 50 percent by 2050. The UAE has ratified the Paris Climate Agreement in September 2016.
