BEIRUT, July 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. unilateral withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal has negative repercussions on the security and stability in the region, said Lebanese President Michel Aoun Monday during his meeting with a senior Iranian envoy.

During the meeting with Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's special envoy and the assistant to Iran's foreign minister, Aoun expressed his regret over the U.S. pullout of the agreement.

"Lebanon considered the agreement a cornerstone of stability in the region, which helps make the region free of weapons of mass destruction," according to a statement from Aoun's office.

Aoun welcomed the sustained commitment of other nations to the Iran nuclear deal, said the statement.

Ansari conveyed a message from Rouhani to Aoun, mentioning the latest developments related to the agreement after U.S. exit and Iran's efforts to deal with the implications of that decision, as well as Iran's willingness to promote bilateral relations at all levels with Lebanon.

The Iranian delegation also discussed with Aoun about the efforts exerted by Iran to help end the Syrian crisis.

After his meetings with Aoun, Ansari met separately with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.
