SYDNEY, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- The state government of West Australia has given the green light to a new wind farm project, which officials described on Friday as one of the best renewable operations in the country.

Construction will begin on the Warradarge Wind Farm in early 2019, installing 51 turbines with tip heights of 152 meters and some of the longest onshore blades in the world, measuring 66 meters.

The area where the farm will be constructed is recognized as having exceptionally reliable and abundant wind.

"The wind farm will have a total output of 180 megawatts with a 50 percent capacity factor - the equivalent of the average annual electricity needs of 135,000 Western Australian homes," state energy minister Bill Johnston said.

Johnston reiterated his government's commitment to a renewable energy future at the lowest cost possible to taxpayers.

World-renowned sustainable energy solutions company Vestas has been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction; and operations and maintenance contracts for the project.
